Our story
After years as polo players and horse breeders, we retired to the rolling hills of Alton, Caledon to begin a new chapter as first-generation farmers. When we first took over our 25-acre property, it was completely abandoned—neglected, overgrown, and waiting for a purpose. Inspired by groundbreaking environmental documentaries like Kiss the Ground and Groundswell, we saw a blank canvas and a chance to do things the right way. We became fiercely passionate about proving that you don't need thousands of acres to make a massive ecological impact; you just need the right practices to bring forgotten land back to life.
Today, those 25 acres are a thriving, living ecosystem. Through the careful rotational grazing of our beloved heritage Valais Blacknose sheep and Kiko goats, we are building carbon-rich soil out of forgotten fields, naturally trapping carbon deep in the ground while managing our pastures without relying on controlled burns.
We are also building for the future by implementing a silvopasture system—removing invasive species and actively planting trees throughout our fields because we believe the best time to plant a tree was yesterday. To safeguard our soil biology and protect our busy honeybee apiaries, we strictly refuse the use of synthetic pesticides and herbicides. When you source your eggs, meats, or heritage animals from our farm stand, you are supporting honest, climate-smart stewardship that brought a beautiful piece of Caledon history back to life. At Alton Hills Gardens we aren’t just managing a farm; we are restoring it to life and making sure it will keep on thriving generations to come.
